Tipped occupations

Qualified tips have to come from an occupation that customarily and regularly received tips on or before December 31, 2024. The list below is the 71 Treasury Tipped Occupation Codes from the final regulation published in the Federal Register on April 13, 2026. The IRS posts the same codes at IRS.gov/TippedOccupations. That IRS page was last reviewed on June 28, 2026. The deduction itself is on Schedule 1-A. Box 12 code TP is the cash tips, and box 14b is the occupation code. The no tax on tips calculator applies the cap.

Being on the list is not the whole test. Tips from a specified service trade or business are not qualified tips. Notice 2025-69 gave transition relief for that test in 2025. Code 000 is not on this list. The W-2 instructions use it when any tips came from a nonqualifying occupation. Illustrative examples are examples, not extra codes. TTOC 804, Goods Delivery People, includes an app or platform-based delivery person as an example.

Questions

What is a Treasury Tipped Occupation Code?

It is the code Treasury assigned to an occupation that customarily and regularly received tips on or before December 31, 2024. A 2026 Form W-2 puts up to two of these codes in box 14b when box 12 shows code TP.

Does a code on this list make the tips deductible?

No. The occupation is one test. The tips still have to be qualified tips, reported, and within the $25,000 cap and the MAGI phase-out. Tips received in a specified service trade or business are not qualified tips. This page does not label which employers fall under that rule. Notice 2025-69 gave transition relief for the specified-service test in 2025.

Where does code 000 fit?

Code 000 is not an occupation on this list. The 2026 Form W-2 instructions use 000 in box 14b when any of the tips came from a nonqualifying occupation.
